It's a wise move once you have decided to jump-into pay-per-click marketing, because PPC is one of the most effective advertising options available for all kinds of business. Like all kinds of typical advertising, PPC requires a good strategy to get the most out of your money. Take note that people who run PPC in the wrong campaign will find it very expensive.

Everyone needs to know the basics, especially if you're unfamiliar with the strategies. I will give some advices on how to bid for keyword and how to run an effective PPC campaign. One of the most important things to consider before starting your own PPC campaign is your budget. Each distinctive keyword requires bidding; For example a high traffic keyword on Google adwords and Overture (both are leading PPC providers) may cost around 4 to 5 bucks per click. If your site converts around 2% of its visitors, this means that you need to have 50 visitors before you make a sale. Summing up $5.00 per click, you will be spending $250 before you can generate one sale. (It hurts right?)

The price is high if we wanted to have the top 3 listings for a keyword, these are the ones spread to the most of the PPC engine's associates. For instances, a #3 ranking on Overture ensure your listing to be positioned on Yahoo, MSN and Alta Vista while a rank #8 listing won't show on any of these search engines.

But the problem is you don't have the money to buy the top ranking keywords. The solution is to broaden your net, target a huge number of less popular words, and taken as a group, it can give you a significant amount of traffic. This strategy is cheaper yet effective. By targeting a group of less popular words, we can get nearly the same traffic as if we have targeted the top ranked keywords. But the cost is fractional.

Take not that this strategy may seem to oppose search engine optimization. As for SEO campaign we need to at least focus on high traffic keywords, that's because it requires a lot of hard-work to earn top listing in search engines. In contrast, it's easy to create a new PPC listing and there's no added cost for doing it. You don't have to pay unless someone clicks on your listing, so targeting a large number of keywords makes sense.

However, the downside of having a large number of keywords is that, it will be harder to track your listings. Advertisers usually check if their rankings haven't dropped, and also which keyword is sending them traffic and has higher conversion rates. Many business owners outsource for their PPC management campaigns, and even now SEOs offers PPC management services. These may cost them money, but these options can help to manage their campaigns more efficiently.

Keep in mind that you don't need to buy any kind of software package or other similar things just to start your PPC campaign. All you need is to know what you can afford, avoid getting into an emotional bidding war if you loose your top ranking keyword, it's much wiser to look for cheaper ones. This way you'll save money and experience the same effect of having the top ranking keywords.

Improve the volume or quality of traffic to your web site from search engines while projecting a positive image to the public using SERM. With SERM, not only do you get to make your website visible, you also make it attractive enough for search engines to index!
